
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon (born on March 22 1976) is an American actress. Witherspoon has received numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award and the Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she is consistently among the top-paid actresses in the world. Time magazine listed her as one of the top 100 influential individuals in the world in both 2006 and 2015. Forbes also named her as one of the 100 most powerful Women Worldwide in the year 2019. Forbes declared her the world's wealthiest actor in 2021. Witherspoon has an estimated fortune of $400 million. Witherspoon made her screen debut in The Man in the Moon (1991). In 1999, Witherspoon made her breakthrough with the part of a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions. She was also known for playing Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Elle Woods, a comedy comedy (2001), as well as its sequel in 2003 earned her more recognition. She was also in Sweet Home Alabama (2002), a romantic comedy. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a slump in her career with her only box-office success was the romantic drama Water for Elephants (2011), Witherspoon made a comeback by producing and starring as Cheryl Strayed in the drama Wild (2014), which earned her a second nomination for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Since then, she's been involved in a majority of television productions, and has appeared in a variety of female-led adaptations of literary works. They include Big Little Lies, an HBO drama series (2017-2019), The Morning Show which is the Apple TV+ drama series (2019-present) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020). For the first she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. She also wrote and produced the film adaptations Gone Girl (2014) and Where the Crawdads Sing (2022).Witherspoon is also the owner of a clothing company, Draper James, and she is involved in children's and women's advocacy organizations. She is a member of the board of the Children's Defense Fund and was honoured to be the chairperson of the Avon Foundation's charity for women's causes in 2007.
